Shuman Roundabout

PUBLISHED ON 07/10/2026

As from Monday 5 October, the works at Schuman have come to an end and the new vehicle access arrangements will come into force.

From then on, motor vehicles’ access to Place Schuman will be restricted according to the security procedures that were previously presented and communicated.

Practical information

Pedestrians and cyclists may move freely throughout the square, whilst access for motor vehicles is restricted.

Only the following streets remain accessible to all:

  • Avenue de Kortenberg towards Rue de la Loi
  • Rue d’Archimède towards the squares
  • Rue de la Loi towards the Petite Ceinture.

Access and circulation on and through the roundabout around the square are reserved to pre-registered vehicles only on the ‘White List’.

For other vehicles, access is blocked at six points by sliding bollards.

These bollards are controlled by ANPR cameras: thanks to number plate recognition, vehicles on the White List managed by the City of Brussels are automatically granted access.

The barrier at 175 Rue de la Loi is managed directly by the Council of the European Union.

Bus routes 56 and 79 retain their terminus at Maelbeek, whilst routes 59, 60 and 64 serve a stop located a few minutes’ walk from Schuman and the railway and metro station of the same name.

At this location, two entrances are currently closed due to renovation works on the waterproofing of the Rue de la Loi tunnel.

These works are due to be completed in spring 2027.

Taxi ranks are located on Rue Froissart.

White List

The roundabout around the square is reserved to pre-registered vehicles.

The White List is only opened to vehicles who need access to parking spaces and garages located within the closed area.

Registration applications must be made by the designated SPOC of each property via epv.traficschuman@brucity.be

More information is available on the dedicated website: ‘Access to the Schuman restricted access zone | City of Brussels’.
