The Artists' Parliament: check-out the new artwork on the Esplanade of the European Parliament

PUBLISHED ON 07/07/2025

On July 3rd, our Brussels Commissioner Alain Hutchinson together with the Vice-President of the European Parliament and former Prime Minister Sophie Wilmès and H.E. Susanne Shine Danish Ambassador to Belgium hosted the preview of “One, Two, Three, Swing!”, the brand new art installation designed by SUPERFLEX for The Artists’ Parliament.

This artwork is a call to unity and dialogue in a time of conflict and polarization.

As Denmark assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union this July, a powerful new artwork by the internationally acclaimed artist collective SUPERFLEX will be unveiled in front of the European Parliament in Brussels. Stemming from a Memorandum of Understanding for an area dedicated to long-term exhibitions on the Esplanade signed between the CEIO and the European Parliament, the installation is the result of a curatorial collaboration between The Artists’ Parliament, Creator Projects, and SUPERFLEX which will transform the Esplanade Solidarność into an engaging space for reflection, connection, and collective action. Designed as both a public installation and a symbolic intervention, the artwork aims to spark awareness, provoke dialogue, and reawaken a shared sense of responsibility.

The installation, titled One Two Three Swing!, takes the form of a sculptural swing set designed for three people—one that only functions when all participants move in sync. Playful in form but profound in meaning, the swing becomes a living metaphor for democracy: the artwork invites visitors to reflect on the values of cooperation, interdependence, and shared movement—fundamental to both the European Union and the global community.
SUPERFLEX was founded in 1993 by Jakob Fenger, Bjørnstjerne Christiansen, and Rasmus Rosengren Nielsen. Conceived as an expanded collective, SUPERFLEX has consistently worked with a wide variety of collaborators, from gardeners to engineers to audience members. Engaging with alternative models for the creation of social and economic organisation, works have taken the form of energy systems, beverages, sculptures, copies, hypnosis sessions, infrastructure, paintings, plant nurseries, contracts, and public spaces.
