Publication of an impact study on the international dimension of the Brussels-Capital Region : facts and figures.
Today we can no longer talk about Brussels without referring to its status as an international capital.
The international presence generates up to 20% of the Brussels economy and up to 23% of regional employment, or more than 162,000 jobs. The publication "Brussels, International Capital - the figures 2020", published in June 2020 at the initiative of the Brussels Commissioner for Europe and the International Organisations, provides a detailed overview of the international presence in Brussels.
The proposed key figures pay particular attention to the economic impact that the European and international institutions generate for the Region. They will surprise many, both sceptics and attentive observers.
"Brussels, International Capital - the 2020 figures" updates and deepens the available data of earlier publications through the use of new tools and methods.
The figures illustrating the impact on the Brussels economy and employment are based on research carried out by the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB - R&D department) on behalf of our office and on statistical data provided by the Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis (BISA).
With the exception of the statistical data provided by BISA, most of the data relate to the period 2018-2020. The impact estimates cover the years 2016-2017. They include lobbying activities, but do not cover the activities of foreign and multinational companies based in Brussels.

Publicatie van een impactstudie over de internationale dimensie van het Brussels Gewest: feiten en cijfers.
Vandaag de dag kunnen we het niet meer over Brussel hebben zonder te verwijzen naar zijn statuut van internationale hoofdstad
De internationale aanwezigheid genereert tot 20% van de Brusselse economie en tot 23% van de gewestelijke werkgelegenheid, of meer dan 162.000 banen. De publicatie "Brussel, internationale hoofdstad - de cijfers 2020", die in juni 2020 werd gepubliceerd op initiatief van de Brusselse Commissaris voor Europa en de Internationale Organisaties, geeft een gedetailleerd overzicht van de internationale aanwezigheid in Brussel.
De voorgestelde kerncijfers hebben tevens bijzondere aandacht voor de economische impact die de Europese en internationale instellingen voor het Gewest genereren. Zij zullen velen verbazen, zowel sceptici als aandachtige waarnemers.
"Brussel, Internationale Hoofdstad - de cijfers 2020" actualiseert en verdiept de beschikbare data van vroegere publicaties door het gebruik van nieuwe instrumenten en methoden.
De cijfers die de impact op de Brusselse economie en werkgelegenheid illustreren zijn gebaseerd op een studie die de Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB - afdeling R&D) in opdracht van het Commissariaat voor Europa uitvoerde en op statistische gegevens ter beschikking gesteld door het Brussels Instituut voor Statistiek en Analyse (BISA).
Met uitzondering van de statistische gegevens die door het BISA werden verstrekt, hebben de meeste gegevens betrekking op de periode 2018-2020. De impactramingen slaan op de jaren 2016-2017, met inbegrip van de lobby-activiteit, maar slaan niet op de activiteiten van de buitenlandse en multinationale ondernemingen die in Brussel gevestigd zijn.

Parution d’une étude d’impact de la dimension internationale de Bruxelles: faits et chiffres
Aujourd’hui, on ne peut plus parler de Bruxelles sans penser « international » !
La présence internationale génère jusqu'à 20% de l'économie bruxelloise et jusqu'à 23% de l'emploi régional, soit plus de 162.000 emplois. La publication « Bruxelles, Capitale Internationale – les chiffres 2020 », paru en juin 2020 à l’initiative du Commissariat à l’Europe et aux Organisations Internationales, dévoile de façon approfondie les chiffres clés sur la présence internationale à Bruxelles.
Cette publication vise à donner un aperçu de la dimension internationale de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale, avec une attention particulière sur les impacts économiques induits par la présence des institutions européennes et internationales sur son territoire. Ce document « objective » l’importance que revêt cette fonction de « capitale internationale » pour notre Région.
Les bienfaits de ce statut « hors norme » ont interpellé les sceptiques du début, étonné les observateurs les plus attentifs et enthousiasmé les jeunes générations.
"Bruxelles, capitale internationale - les chiffres 2020" met à jour et approfondit les données disponibles des publications précédentes grâce à l'utilisation de nouveaux outils et méthodes. Vous y trouverez les chiffres les plus pertinents pour illustrer la fonction internationale de notre Région. Elle repose sur une étude menée par la Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB - département R&D) et sur des données statistiques récoltées par l’Institut bruxellois de Statistique et d’Analyse (IBSA).
À l'exception des données statistiques qui ont été fournies par l'Institut Bruxellois de Statistique et d'Analyse (IBSA), la plupart des données se rapportent à la période 2018-2020. Les estimations d'impact se réfèrent aux années 2016-2017, en y incluant le lobbying, mais pas les activités des entreprises étrangères et multinationales implantées à Bruxelles.
